Whelan Wins In Portlaoise: Under 10 Leinster Track Champion and Multi National Medalist Ryan Whelan competed in his first ever Road Race in Portlaoise on Sunday, winning the Under 12 event with his Team Mate Adam Stenson battling out the the Chase to the line.The Under 10 Riders were given a short handicap on the Under 12 main field, but Whelan had the added advantage of having top Under 12 rider Adam Stenson on his team.

Having earned six National Medals and five Leinster Medals on the Track over the past two seasons, the young Leinster Track Champion had yet to try his luck in a Road Race.

Ryan showed that there is very little difference between winning on the Track and winning on the road, and the young rider was delighted to finally race alongside his more established team mate Adam Stenson (Stenson himself a National and Leinster Track Champion this season).

Ryan is the son of 2010 Duane Delaney prize winner Kevin Whelan, with his two uncles also racing in Stagg Cycles colours,
