Last Saturday in Corkagh Park the 2020 Talent Team had their 4th training camp. With school holidays fast approaching this will afford the girls more time to train more specifically on the their bikes. So this camp was all about showing them how some of the efforts they now need to incorporate into their training should feel.

Coach Paddy Doran Head of Development in Cycling Ireland along with Gillian McDarby former Head Development coach for the Women’s Squad and Jenny McCauley former Olympian were on hand to demonstrate and motivate the girls on how to get the most out of the efforts they were being shown. Corkagh Park is an excellent venue for this type of training. In fact we could have spent all day there doing different skills and efforts.

After lunch the girls headed out to the Velodrome where Ger Ivory and Nicola Oldham some of our the top track coaches in Sundrive and Orangefield along Roisin Kennedy current Leinster Scratch Champion were on hand to guide the girls through some very interesting and fun track skills. A lot of fun was had by all and to top the day off a bit of competition was added to the affair with a team pursuit and Italian pursuit competition. I can’t remember which team won but they were good fun.

Once in Sundrive we had lunch and watched a short video of our Test Day in Corkagh Park kindly produced by Robin Priestley for us. Paddy Doran then gave us a short talk on what had been covered in the morning session and went through how the girls might look at their training and racing during the summer months. However we had also planned to incorporate some track work into the day mostly for those who had not done much on the track before. As the two venues are so close, we chose to cycle the short distance from Clondalkin to Sundrive.

Many thanks to all the coaches who gave of their time to make the day a success also to Hugh Byrne who organized the track end of things for us. Also big thanks to the Parents who also give of their time to make the day a success. Finally a big well done to all the girls who took part we packed a lot into one day.
