Whelan Wins In Emyvale: Adamstown Cyclist Brendan Whelan won in Emyvale on Sunday (May 27) after going clear in a breakaway after the first lap. The promoters held a Veterans category race, allowing the A1 Cyclist enter the event that was combined with A3 and Juniors.

The 50 Mile event was Whelans second Open Race Win in a row this season.
Brendan and his brother Fergus were taking turns marking attacks at the front of the bunch when Padraic Doherty (Lucan Cycling Club) went clear with Brendan on his Wheel.
Doherty done the bulk of the early work, and the duo almost stayed clear, but they were caught by six riders approaching the final lap.
The main bunch almost got back on terms with five miles remaining, but the new breakaway riders managed to do enough and keep a significant time gap as they headed for an uphill sprint finish.
Whelan closed down on the leading riders within the final km and went clear to win the race, including the Trophy for first Veteran Rider, followed by Rory Farrell in second and Padraic Doherty third (Lucan Cycling club)
