A cold day but that didn’t dampen the spirit of the 1st & 2nd year students.
Two of the attending pupils, Kevin McGuinness and Killian Burke are members of the local cycling club based at the Sundrive Track, and were able to lead their classmates in the drills under the direction of track coaches Stephen Gibbons and Alec Darragh.
Sundrive Track Team cyclists Andrea Fagan and John Coates were also in hand to help put the students through there paces The students learned to handle the bikes on the grass before being let onto the track.
Once up on the track they quickly got to grips of starting and stopping on a bike with no brakes.
This mastered they moved onto cycling in pairs then closer as a bunch.
There favourite was The Snake (follow the leader ) taken them all over the track and using the banking to vary and control speed.
They finished the session with some drag racing which got very competitive and some re-matches had to be run. Another date was set so we’ll see them soon for more fun. |
